Jason Aldean on Old Sound of New Album: The Ram Report

The newly-crowned ACM Entertainer of the Year is looking forward by looking back. Jason Aldean says his next album will sound more like his 2009 and 2010 collections.

"This album really does go back to what I do best," the singer told Rolling Stone Country and other media outlets just before the ACM Awards. "When you go back and listen to the Wide Open album and My Kinda Party. . . It's sort of the combination of those two albums. It's just getting back to what we do. At the end of the day, our core sound is uptempo or rock and roll, and the slow to mid-range things are a little country. That's the system that works for us."

The first single from the upcoming LP, "Lights Come On" is no doubt one of the more rock-leaning tracks. It was written by Jimmy Robbins, Jordan Schmidt, Brad Warren, Brett Warren and Florida Georgia Line's Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley. Aldean hints that the song will be accompanied on the album by more mature material.

"As you get older, your subject matter of songs starts to change. The things that I cut 10 years ago when I was first getting started, I would not necessarily cut those songs now," he says. "I like to think I'm older and a little bit  wiser than when I started, but that's probably debatable. Well, the older part isn't debatable!"
