Hear Kendrick Lamar's Fiery Verse on Funkadelic Remix

George Clinton is among the first guests to appear on Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp a Butterfly opener "Wesley's Theory," and now the Compton rapper has repaid the favor by dropping a verse on the G-Funk legend's remix of "Ain't That Funkin' Kinda Hard On You," a track off Funkadelic's 2014 comeback LP First Ya Gotta Shake The Gate.

Lamar stops midway through the fast-paced, funkified remix by noted New York Louie Vega, delivering a blistering verse. "Two tears in a bucket I'd cry with ya / But I could never lie with ya / I could never afford not to afford / I could never put my plans to the side with ya," Lamar says. "While you hate to work for it / The reason why I hate to wait for it / See a 9-to-5 was so jive turkey / But when Thanksgiving came that check did hurt me / You plead the fifth, I read the Fifth Amendment / We're both criminals with bad intention."

The Lamar remix is part of the Vega-produced Ain't That Funkin' Kinda Hard On You EP released Friday on iTunes, Okayplayer reports. Three versions of the Lamar remix grace the EP: The above take, a "nu-dub" remix and a radio mix. The EP also features contributions from Parliament/Funkadelic vets like trombonist Fred Wesley and James Brown Revue saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis.

"Ain't That Funkin' Kinda Hard On You" was among the 33 tracks featured on Funkadelic's three-disc, three-and-a-half hour funk odyssey First Ya Gotta Shake The Gate. The LP's number of tracks represent the 33 years since the last official Funkadelic release, 1981's The Electric Spanking of War Babies.
