After thunderstorms forced the cancellation of Kanye West's headlining Governor's Ball set, the rapper attempted to stage a G.O.O.D. Music pop-up concert at New York City's Webster Hall early Monday morning. With massive amounts of fans flooding the streets, TeamKanyeDaily tweeted a clip of West trying to make contact with New York City mayor Bill de Blasio, requesting to "have a party outside." But the event was canceled as quickly as it was brainstormed, with no response from the mayor. Until now.
"Great block parties are planned," de Blasio tweeted Monday at West and wife Kim Kardashian, noting that he and his wife, activist-writer Chirlane McCray, "can throw one w/ you to benefit NYC kids." The tweet was accompanied by an image of the mayor on the phone, captioned with "Does someone have Kanye's number?" and a loudspeaker emoji – a lighthearted nod to the original video.

— Bill de Blasio (@BilldeBlasio) June 6, 2016The mayor recently took exception to controversial comments made by NYPD Commissioner William Bratton, who called rappers "basically thugs" in a radio interview addressing a shooting during a T.I. concert at New York's Irving Plaza that left one dead and three others injured. "I think rap like any other genre is very, very diverse," the mayor responded in a radio interview (via New York Post), citing the listening habits of his children.
"I am relatively current because of the musical choices of Dante and Chiara, so I hear a lot," the mayor said. "Some is thoughtful and socially conscious and some I find distasteful. But I could say that about a lot of genres. I could say that about popular culture in general. I think our culture glorifies violence. I think it’s an American problem."
