Hear the Deslondes' Rowdy 'Tres Grand Serpent'

The Saturday night / Sunday morning dichotomy is an enduring one in country music, where the transgressions of the former can be figuratively washed away by the latter. New Orleans country outfit the Deslondes' new 7-inch hinges on that notion, with both days represented by their own side.

"Tres Grand Serpent," premiering below, represents the Saturday component on side A. Speedy swamp pop-style electric guitar riffs dance with Cajun fiddles and Riley Downing (one of the band's lead singers) sets a scene of carousing and falling hard for a woman. "Fell in love, nothing I could do / love some woman who don't love you," he sings, but it sounds like he doesn't have any regrets about giving in to temptation.

"[It's] about just letting go, having a good time, staying out too late, dancing with a girl and losing your head and all your money to your buddies," explains Downing of the song, which was written by Deslondes' guitarist/steel player John James Tourville. "The Sunday side, 'What Are They Doing in Heaven Today?' is about sobering up and reflecting on life and family and friends on earth and in heaven. As well as the state of things, whether it be the world, your community or yourself."

"Tres Grand Serpent" / "What Are They Doing in Heaven Today?" will be available on June 10th via New West Records.
