Watch Lonely Island's Goofy Will Smith Tribute at MTV Movie Awards

The Lonely Island honored Will Smith as the 2016 recipient of the MTV Movie Awards' Generation Award with a charming, surprisingly straight tribute to the performer's legendary music career.

Fittingly clad in Fresh Prince-esque attire — garish, neon shirts and overalls with a single dangling strap — the comedy trio of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer bypassed their typical parody shtick and ran through a medley of some of Smith's biggest hits: "Parents Just Don't Understand" the Fresh Prince theme, "Summertime" and his Men In Black theme.

The only quintessential Lonely Island moment came when the trio stopped "Men In Black," performed a mind wipe on the crowd — and then played the aforementioned Smith songs backwards and at the same time.

"Wait, sorry that was a bad idea, that sounded terrible," Samberg quickly apologized, before cracking: "Let's just end on 'Jiggy.'"

Queen Latifah and Halle Berry also honored Smith's storied and pioneering acting career, as well as his continued efforts to fight for diversity in Hollywood. While accepting the award, Smith touched on his own longevity saying, "I released my first record when I was 17, and so I'm 47 years old, this June marks 30 years in this business for me. I made 'Parents Just Don't Understand.' I'm with my kids sometimes and I'm like, 'I don't get it.'"
