Vince Neil was cited for battery following an incident Thursday in Las Vegas where the Mötley Crüe singer allegedly assaulted a woman who was seeking actor Nicolas Cage's autograph. A Las Vegas police spokesperson confirmed that Neil was under investigation after the woman told police that Neil came up from behind and grabbed her by the hair. Police who responded to the scene cited Neil for misdemeanor battery but did not arrest him, Reuters reports.
Following the incident, TMZ posted bizarre video Friday of Cage attempting to calm down Neil outside the Aria Hotel after the alleged assault took place; in TMZ's account of the situation, the actor and the singer got into a "huge physical fight" after Neil's confrontation with the woman, whose identity was not shared by police. "Stop this shit now!," Cage is seen yelling at Neil after their reported fight, with the two embracing in a reconciliatory hug.
A representative for Neil did not respond to Rolling Stone's request for comment.
According to Reuters, if convicted, Neil faces six months in prison stemming from the battery charges. In 2011, the singer was charged with battery and disorderly conduct stemming from an incident with an ex-girlfriend at a theatre; the battery charge was dropped and Neil avoided jail time after he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct.
Mötley Crüe closed out their time together with their epic "Final Tour" in December. Neil has since been named as a contestant on the upcoming season of Celebrity Apprentice and has mapped out a solo tour that kicks off later this month at Maryland's M3 Rock Festival. Neil's name
