Yep Roc Records will soon begin the massive undertaking of reissuing the albums initially recorded for Kingston, Jamaica's legendary Studio One label. In their first dip into the legendary reggae catalog, the label will bring back the Wailers' The Wailing Wailers after a long stretch of being out-of-print. The reissued Clement "Coxsone" Dodd-produced 1965 compilation – featuring the Wailers lineup of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer – arrives May 27th.
The Wailing Wailers will be released with its original 12-song track list – including the group's Number One single "Simmer Down," early versions of Marley's hits "One Love" and "Put It On" as well as Tosh's solo cover of "You Don't Miss Your Water" (titled "When the Well Runs Dry" on Wailing Wailers) – with its original artwork in an effort to stay true to the album's original Studio One release.
"We are excited for the opportunity to relaunch the Studio One brand and thankful for the trust that Carol [Dodd, Clement's daughter and Studio One overseer] and her team has afforded us," Yep Roc's Billy Maupin said in a statement (via Pitchfork). "Through reissues of classic titles as well as new collections, we want our releases to reflect the history and legacy of Jamaica's most iconic label. Here's to the next 60 years!"
