Glen Campbell Documentary Named As Peabody Award Finalist

The documentary Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me has been selected as one of 60 finalists for the 2015 Peabody Awards. Directed by James Keach, the film detailed the music legend's farewell tour and his heartbreaking Alzheimer's disease diagnosis, which was revealed publicly in 2011. Other finalists in the documentary category include American Experience: Last Days in Vietnam, Growing Up Trans, and What Happened, Miss Simone, a film about singer Nina Simone.

The Peabody Awards have honored excellence in radio, television and other forms of electronic media for 75 years. Winners in the documentary and educational categories will be revealed via the Peabody Awards' Facebook on Tuesday, April 26th.

All of the winners, totaling 30 from the list of 60 finalists, will be honored at the 75th anniversary Peabody Awards on May 21st in New York City. Hosted by actor/writer and former Peabody recipient Keegan-Michael Key, co-star of Comedy Central's Key and Peele, the ceremony will air as a 90-minute special, Monday, June 6th at 8 p.m. ET on Pivot.

Of the moving film, which featured appearances from many of Campbell's fellow artists including Paul McCartney and Brad Paisley, the singer's daughter, musician Ashley Campbell, told Rolling Stone Country, "It's a great way to get the message out there. [It's] definitely not what you think of when you think of a documentary about Alzheimer's. I think the beauty of it is that my dad is such a personable person. He's so charismatic and funny and just real, and it really shines through in this film."

The iconic musician earned an Academy Award nomination with co-writer and prodcuer Julian Raymond for "I'm Not Gonna Miss You," the last song he ever recorded. Last month it was revealed that he has been in the final stages of the disease for several months.

In honor of Campbell's 80th birthday on Friday, April 22nd, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is hosting a screening of I'll Be Me.
