Elton John on Prince: 'Greatest Performer I Have Ever Seen'

Following Prince's deathElton John posted a picture of the musician on Instagram, calling him "the greatest performer I have ever seen" and "a true genius." Elton John and Prince performed onstage together twice, John wrote.

"This is truly devastating news," John wrote. "The greatest performer I have ever seen. A true genius. Musically way ahead of any of us. Sang with him twice on stage. What an honour. Rest in peace you purple warrior. #Prince #RIP" John joined the Purple One onstage at London's O2 Arena in 2007 for a surprise duet of the Beatles' "The Long and Winding Road" during Prince's 21-day residency.

Artists and bands are flooding social media with tributes to the beloved "Purple Rain" singer, who died at age 57 at his Paisley Park studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

In an interview with Rolling Stone on Thursday, Joan Jett sobbed over the phone talking about her idol. "I was very much a fan and very influenced by him," says the Blackhearts singer. "[I] got lucky enough to meet him right about the time 'Purple Rain' was happening. He was such a talent. [He was] completely unique.

"In my life, there’s been a lot of people going out lately and it’s just a strange part of life," Jett adds. "I don't have words yet to describe it. It's a big loss."

Madonna posted a candid shot of her and Prince in matching yellow ensembles to her Instagram. "He changed the world! A true visionary. What a loss," she wrote.

He Changed The World!! A True Visionary. What a loss. I'm Devastated. This is Not A Love Song.

Jon Bon Jovi wrote about Prince on Twitter calling him one of the "greatest inspirations in music" as well as a friend and genius.

I'm crushed by the news that one of the greatest inspirations in music EVER has passed.
I was lucky enough to have met him many times
