Bob Dylan-Inspired TV Show Headed to Amazon

The characters and themes that fill Bob Dylan's songs will be the basis for a new hour-long drama series on Amazon, Variety reports.

Lionsgate TV is reportedly closing in on a deal with the website for Time Out of Mind, from Australian writer/director Josh Wakely. While most of Wakely's credits include short films, he was able to secure a rights deal for Dylan's massive song catalog.

Impressively, Time Out of Mind isn't even Wakely's first show based around a famous musician: His production company, Grace, is spearheading the upcoming Netflix animated children's show, Beat Bugs, which tells stories inspired by Beatles songs. Among the artists set to record covers for the program are Eddie Vedder, Pink and Sia.

As for Time Out of Mind — named after Dylan's 1997 album of the same name — specific details about plot and character have yet to be announced as the series remains in development. But according to reports, the show will follow two characters or story threads from Dylan songs that end up connecting in some way.

Time Out of Mind also marks the latest music-based endeavor for Amazon's streaming service.  The web giant has already scored a hit with Mozart in the Jungle — centered around the classical music world — and they're also developing a Grateful Dead bio-series based on ex-roadie Steve Parish's memoir, Home Before Daylight. Amazon Studios also helped produce Spike Lee's 2015 musical-satire Chi-Raq and is currently prepping Elvis & Nixon with Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey in the titular roles, respectively.

As for Dylan, the musician will release a new album of mostly Frank Sinatra covers, Fallen Angels, on May 20th. He'll also hit the road this summer with opener Mavis Staples.
