Tame Impala Responds to Rihanna's Hypnotic Cover

Beyond its surprise release, one of the biggest shocks in relation to Rihanna's eighth LP Anti is her cover of Tame Impala's Currents closer "New Person, Same Old Mistakes," retitled "Same Ol' Mistakes." Tame Impala's management issued a statement in regards to the cover.

According to management company Spinning Top, Rihanna's team at Roc Nation reached out to them to ask if she could cover the song for the album. "Kevin [Parker] was more than happy to send it her way," the statement revealed. "We're all really happy with how the song turned out, love it!" Parker was also credited as producer on "Same Ol' Mistakes."

After a year of teasing its imminent arrival, Rihanna officially debuted Anti on Wednesday night following Tidal's accidental release. In 14 hours, the LP was streamed over 13 million times and hit over one million downloads, Tidal said. On Friday morning, a deluxe version of the album was released on iTunes for purchase. Anti remains unavailable on streaming-only platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.

The release of Anti was originally indicated with a photo the singer posted earlier in the week with the caption "Listening to Anti." On Wednesday morning, she released its new lead single, the dancehall-flavored "Work" featuring Drake.

Noticeably absent from the album are the three singles Rihanna debuted in 2015: "Bitch Better Have My Money," "American Oxygen" and "FourFiveSeconds" featuring Paul McCartney and Kanye West. The latter was originally indicated to be the lead single from both Rihanna's eighth LP and West's own highly-anticipated upcoming album, Waves. It has also been left off the track list for Waves.
